Please stop making fanart of the high schoolers who died on the ferry. That’s extremely disrespectful. You have no idea what was going on with them at the time and you have no right to make up little cutesy sad stories about them. They are not your objects to play with as you wish. Pray for Korea. Don’t turn it into your fantasy playground.
one time i was channel surfing and i came to a scene in twilight where rob pattinson climbs up into a tree as edward cullen and i changed the channel and rob pattinson hopped out of a tree as cedric diggory from harry potter
Anonymous asked: What does the term ‘manpain’ mean? I’ve seen that used a lot on tumblr and I don’t understand. Isn’t the point of a character’s pain to reflect on their arc, no matter what gender they are? I’ve seen this applied to batman and various characters and I really want to know why it’s considered a bad thing.
Manpain describes the way primarily white male characters are often written in fiction. Sufferers of manpain have three main characteristics:
excessively tragic back stories, frequently involving the tragic death of a loved one, which still has a profound effect on them despite a significant amount of time passing.
past pain and pain inflicted by new trauma is handled almost melodramatically and portrayed in such a way that suggests that the man is suffering more than anyone else ever, even if he is just one of several others who were affected by the same tragedy.
the man’s suffering is often created or contributed to by exploiting the death of a female or child character, or a trauma experienced by a female or child character.
Manpain is done to excess, usually at the expense of other characters, and that’s the main reason why it’s bad. It’s also bad because it’s sometimes used as a shortcut to make the character more sympathetic, and it’s frequently used to justify the character doing horrible things.
So, it’s not that male characters can’t be allowed to feel pain, it’s just that it needs to be handled realistically and not be at the expense of others.
